Signs It May Be Time to Hire Help

As the average life expectancy in America continues to increase and the population continues to age, there are more and more people who eventually need to make a decision on whether or not their elderly loved one needs assistance with their daily and healthcare needs. The following are signs that it may be time to help your senior relative by hiring a professional RN or LPN from Expicare Nursing:

Your loved one has a hard time standing on their own.

If your elderly family member has a difficult time getting up from a sitting position or out of bed, this is a strong sign they need in-home nursing assistance. Without this help, and left on their own, they could end up being stuck in a chair for hours – or even days – before a visitor or other help finally shows up.

Your loved one is beginning to miss appointments and other obligations.

We all get a brain lapse sometimes, but when an elderly person begins to forget obligations, this may be due to Alzheimer’s or dementia. Missing social events or appointments may also indicate that it is the difficulty of getting themselves dressed and ready or commuting to the event that is causing them to miss these dates, as opposed to not remembering them. All of these are signs that your loved one could use assistance from an RN or LPN at Expicare Nursing.

Your loved one has unexplained bumps and bruises.

When an elderly person begins having trouble with cleaning, dressing, walking, or just getting around, it is not uncommon for them to suffer with bumps, bruises, or other wounds on their body. These can be caused by falls and other home accidents that your loved one may try to brush off as insignificant, or call themselves clumsy, but the truth is that these are signs that your loved one needs some level of help at home before they suffer a serious injury.

Your loved one has developed poor hygiene or poor home cleaning habits.

If you noticed your elderly family member is not showering anymore, their clothes aren’t clean, their home is no longer clean and tidy like it used to be, these are signs that they are having a hard time taking care of themselves. Poor hygiene can result in infections. An unclean home can also contribute to health issues. Keeping food that has gone bad could indicate that your loved one isn’t getting the proper nutrition they need, or they could eat food that has gone bad and end up with food poisoning.

Your loved one has extreme mood swings or moodiness.

If your senior family member begins suffering from extreme moodiness or mood swings, this could be the beginning stages of depression or Alzheimer’s disease. It is important that they not be left alone and that there is someone with them to make sure these symptoms do not get worse. And if they do, that there is someone there like an Expicare RN or LPN to offer help and make them feel safe.
